Let there be light...
« on: 03 April 2011, 20:28 »
After deliberation and a temporary foray into Philips H7 bulbs (+5% brightness improvement and better light colour temperature), I decided to stop mucking about and fitted xenons. Oh, and cruise control. Basically, most of the front of the car and dash has been off in the last day or so. Given the choice of the new LED style versions, I elected to purchase the old style which were available at the time I bought the car. I feel like I know the VW parts catalogue like the back of my hand now and there were a few times in tugging at some of the plastics that I did wonder if I was going to be ordering some new dash trim!

I was out in Suffolk this weekend so took a quick snap to share.

Looking good mate.  They would go perfectly with my new rear LED's.

Just out of interest what was the total cost for the lights?

Cheers,

Jim

Ta. Realise it's less interesting for the guys here who ticked the box at purchase...

£838 all in using Kufatec parts. Factor in the cost of Vagcom if you don't have it or I think a couple of guys on here could oblige with coding the lights in.

I've been thinking about the LED rears but actually like the half moons I got as stock just as much. Only question I have is the size/brightness of the reverse light, how do you find it compared to the original lights? Is it bright enough to use? I've just got a swine of a granite kerb to parallel park against and I actually need a decent amount of light to make out the kerb in my mirrors.

Xenon's are nice but I couldnt justify that kind of money.....Or could I ;o)

I have a camera so I don't have issues with parking in the dark mate but I'd imagine that without the camera it wouldnt be that bright.

Did I mention I had been having some problems with the coding? They're installed, it just means I can't go out at night though...

I'll take some shots at night with them on. Amazing difference it has to be said.

Only because I didn't have the AFC module installed. They're manually adjusted which is absolutely fine for me. I got a wall target setup using a mate's Golf R and adjusted to the same level as his on the same surface and don't appear to have blinded anyone yet.
