only have one key
« on: 02 April 2011, 10:42 »
as the title says really, i bought a mk4 about a month ago and it seems that the key fab battery has died as i can't unlock the doors with the remote anymore. all week i have been unlocking and locking the car with the key and no problems.
today however i did the same and my alarm went off, bugger.

i just did a quick search on the forum and it seems that i might have problems with re-sync once i change the batteries, my fob is the one with 2 small batteries.

how can i obtain another key have seen blanks on ebay, also would like a remote fob with the spare key.

all help appriciated Mike.

Your best bet is go to go VW for the key, I think, others may have a suggestion.

I've recently got myself a spare key from VW, £130, alot yes, but at least I know it's all genuine. VW will want £50 to code it, but you'll find someone here that can do it for you.
80% of your posts are total tripe, as they are mostly replies to sh1te posts created by the morons that, unfortunately this forum attracts.

all fuses etc correct and present, it's a real arse coz it was bloody working upto this week, when i got the new batterie the guy tested my old ones and they were fine.

can you just lose the ability to use the remote fob just like that?

who on the forum can re-code it if i buy another blank and fob?

also i just want to make sure that this is the correct course of action.

symptoms

  • remote locking not working

  • upon opening passengers door with key when drivers door is locked it will set off the alarm

  • i have even had the alarm going once door is opened, by starting the car( alarm eventually went off after a couple of mins driving

  • alarm being set off once seated in drivers seat and opening passengers door (only stopped once engine was started)
