hi today i started my car today as normal and drove the car for about 10 mins and then the fan kicked in so i parked the car and the fan was still going ive just came  out of my house after 4 hours of leaving the car and the fan is still going what can it be i pulled the fuse out and it stoped then put the fuse back in and it stayed of so i was wondering what couled it be to make the fan stay on like that

Thermostat could have just gone today, maybe it's stuck, it's only a cheap part anyway, not more than ?12 from ECP.  :smiley:
......now officially dubless.

Doubt its the thermostat, sounds like the radiator fan switch to me!

P.S. A genuine thermostat & seal is about ?13 from VW, so don't bother buying one from ECP ;)

were is the fan switch on the car has anyone got any pics of the switch as there are a couple of plugs  going to the fan and is there any fuses under the bonnet for the fan thanks

Its screwed directly into the bottom of the radiator on the passenger side, you cant miss it :)

ok ill check that then. and one more thing theres to switches on a hose that goes into the engine block i think there for the temp gauge and dial one of them had to come of as the bloke that had it befour had done somethink to it and it was broke i was wondering if the temp gauge dont work will the fan no when to go on as that might be the problem thanks for your posts

The rad fan is completely seperate to either of the sensors in that flange so no worries there.  One of them should be for the dash gauge and another is for the ECU if you have a digifant engine.

i was wondering how could i check if the fan switch is working right and i dont no if mines a digifan engine mines the 1990 mk2 golf gti 1.8 8v if that helps thanks
