Should mention this is on a c plate gti without central locking. Can i fit central locking? What would be the easiest way? Using the later doors?

If I remember rightly Awesome GTI were flogging some smooth boot plinths some time ago.

All you would have to do is fit a solenoid to the tailgate that had a 12v feed, and a switch placed somewhere in the car. I did this to my old Jetta, and I had the switch in the centre console away from prying eyes. The only problem was that you had to open the door to get to the switch to then open the boot to put stuff in it.

As regards the central locking, you can buy universal kits that are a doddle to fit, they retail at about ?50-100 depending on how many doors you've got.

if you look at my pic you'll see i have nothing! i got a solenoid out of the boot of an orion in a scrappy and wired it to my rear wash/wipe when i ditched the wiper as well. but otherwise do what lewy said and just wire it somewhere not too obvious, just so it doesn't look sh!t if nothing else!!

as for smoothing off the plinth that normally houses the lock, either pay through the nose for a ready smoothed one, or attack yours with some filler and colour code it to the rest of your car! easy weekend job if you take your time spraying etc.

Cheers for the info, I'm looking to do something similar to my mini project as well as the Golf. I now have the Golf in my posession with no money handed over. If only it could stay that way...free.

Just got a smoothed boot from ebay the golf spare parts store! trying to work out where to put my new german plate and the only thin I can think of is taking the VW logo off the panel under boot and putting it on there but does it have to be lit to be legal?? Any ideas guys

for anyone that doesnt know you can add central locking to the boot but you need to get the plith from one that already has central locking as the button isnt the same but like everyones said remove it and put a button inside or if your really clever then leave the button on just smooth the lock over with filler and smooth the rest not so hard just make sure you leave the lock in the right position so when you unlock the doors the boot unlocks :S

cant a clifford be setup to open boot from the remote? no buttons nothing.
