I think its more for sound deadening to be honest, mine doesn't have it either. ?You could always try:

or

Does anyone feel a group buy coming on???

Only ever seen it on 16vs and VR6s.

A VR6 isn't a way of life, it's just a car.

i ?was wondering about that too, as my 97 gti 8v has no under-bonnet sound deadner (is that how its spelt ?:undecided:). would the 16v one fit straight in?

I am sure the deadening from a 16v or vr6 would fit straight in as the bonnets are identical.  Probably need to get the necessary clips too.  Get to a scrappy and investigate!

Thanks, will do. Also does anyone know if there is a plastic cover available to go under the engine to protect it from water??

my valver has an under engine protection plastic plate thingy.. its a pretty simple job to fix on if you have the front end of the car on some ramps.

its one _big_ plastic piece.. and you need 3 bolts from VW, and 3 'star washers' that push onto spikes/spiggots that come out from the car..? hopefully these are there on all models..

its possible it wont fit properly on 8vs? there is a hole for the sump on my valver.. which is likely to be positioned differently on an 8v?

i've heard people with earlier valvers say they didnt have this plate.. but if not fixed properly they rattle.. so they could have been removed..

does _anyone_ with an 8v have either the plastic plate or the bonnet padding thingy?

My '97 P 8v doesnt have any sound proofing on the bonnet or the tray underneath the engine. Although the underside of the bonnet is now nice and sparkling form having it steam cleaned!! Whilst we are on the subject of 'missing bits', was it only the 16v and VRs which had the battery 'jacket' as mine is without one?? :undecided:
