Interior wing mirror cover

I'm trying to replace the triangular cover for the wing mirror and have got a new cover but how should it fit to the door? There is a round hole on the door and a rectangular lug on the cover itself. Should there be a fitting in the hole to accept the lug?

Yes there should be a plastic plug in there.

I think you've got 1 or 2 big round holes to get to the main mirror screws, and 2 or 3 smaller rectangular holes which should have plugs to accept 2/3 pins on the back of the interior bit.a bit like the rear badges the way they press in...
