Instrument Lights
« on: 22 March 2011, 19:40 »
Greetings all,
Wondered if I could pick someones brains.  Made a mistake when I was installing an LED in the light switch.  Puff of smoke, swore a bit and replaced again.  I have now lost all the dash lights/switch lights and just wondered if I have likely blown all of the bulbs (no biggy as they are being replaced anyway) or have I done something more.  Checked the fuse and that is ok.  I put the original bulb back in the light switch and that now works.

Does it sound like I have just blown the bulbs?.

Cheers

Rich

ok, i would say that either you have a burnt out grey/blue wire from the switch, or the dimmer unit inside it has gone.  take the switch out and bridge a wire from the red to the grey/blue, if dash lights come on its the dimmer, if not its the grey/blue wire somewhere

hmm  new switch and still no lights.  It was from ebay though so maybe worth trying one more switch incase that was faulty already.  Can anyone suggest anything else I may have blown?.  Fuse and bulbs are ok.

bridge a wire from the red wire to the blue/grey wire on the switch. if the dash lights come on then you know its the switch or the power feed for the dash lights has gone. check pin 58E has power when the lights switch is on
