Half my journey of 7 miles each way involves trolling up and down the Marylebone Road, London which suffers from major constant constipation. My average speed on this vile stretch of over used tarmac is around 6 mph with an average consumption of 9 mpg!
You know what, I don't care as otherwise I'll have a stroke. However, the average for the day is around 25 mpg which is fine and delights me.
I serenely drive my smooth and quiet GTI whilst listening to and enjoying a fabulous sound system and all seems well with the world for me.  :smug:

Iv just escaped sh!tty Cumbria for a weekend in Manchester, got an average of 38mpg on the way there and back, pretty pleased with that seen as the ST was kicking out 22 on average!
Whats wrong with Cumbria? My brother lives in windermere and i go up every chance i get! I'm confused by some of the low mpg figures for motorway driving, on the trip from my house to Windermere i average about 43 ish mpg doing about 75 ish all the way on a good day, i only live about a mile from the motorway so perhaps it's something to do with that?

Just a bit quite out here for my liking and the nightlife is rubbish prefer the city but thats just me!  :smug:

It wasnt all motorway for me from whitehaven its about an hours drive on single carriageway roads so the figures drop for that part then slowly increase on the motorway, and im a little heavy footed every now and then when i get bored

Currently in Devon after travelling from Lincolnshire, started with 600 miles, have covered 360miles with 255 left and an average of 58.9mpg :) and that wasn't a totally full tank.

Since Iam now driving with much more attention being paid to the legal limit, I'm getting 35ish MPG average on longer runs, with my mixed urban/dual carridgeway rund still showing in the 30s.
I'm impressed really.

I travelled from Whitby to Windermere through the Dales on some considerably winding roads so getting the figures I was getting pleased the pants off me.

"quick" I get 45 MPG
"with the traffic" I get 55 MPG
"taking it easy" I get 65 MPG
If I reset the counter once on the motorway and take it easy @ 58 mph I can get 70+ MPG

Overall I average 51.7 MPG but it does get a good run every day 35 miles each way and I'm close (ish) to the motorways, I normally drive a mixture of quick / with the traffic.

If i just watch the computer i can get similar out of our TDI170 but brim to near empty to brim again of the tank my total avarage is nowere near those figures sadly  :embarassed: I could get better figures out of our TDI130 than the newer TDI170 :embarassed:

So manual, stage 1 remap, momentum petrol (£1.37  ) & generally quick of the mark driving but mostly on B roads and the odd dual carraigeway, I get just over 300miles to the tank approx 34mpg.

I agree for a price of a couple of cups of tea or bottle of juice...it's all worth it
