If I so wish, I can obtain infinite mpg along with a broken shoulder from my GTI by using my Freedom Pass. Beat that you soot-suckers.
I'd give that a miss and stick to the none damaging Golf

May God forgive you this time. :lipsrsealed:

To help with my fuel consumption... ive placed an order for a Hyundai i10 in crystal white. 11 reg and arrives in 6 weeks.

Golfs getting a rest..staying and not selling.. Weekend fun blasts

i10 has a 450 tank range.... averages 61mpg, costs £20 a year road tax, and only £200 to insure.

Was costing me £200+  a month in fuel for the Ed30 for 800 miles. Got the i10 and its still cheaper to run both, Now £20 a week in fuel and does nearly 200 miles on that £20

St. Steve: I presume you've factored in the cost of buying a second car.
Congratulations on your purchase.

Sad i know but I more or less had done what Steveis talking about but i did not buy a newish second car, one similar with the toyota 1.0 in. I have got bored over the past year driving it though and theres many times were i wished i had the power to overtake and were in the other car. So the GTI will get used more. (I have thought about buying a mk2 to replace the 1.0 car though  )
Am1W i did factor in the cost with mine and it worked out cheaper but then i had the car anyway as a stop gap because of the golfs delay back in 09. It came in handy in the winter too.

i had a £7000 cheque giving to me from a sale of property(shared with 23 other people) i was a long time member of, so the £2000 outlay, wasnt from my savings so to speak, so made sense to buy new ....

33.2mpg average according to the computer.

47mpg highest recorded trip. Not bad for a car that takes me from 0-60 in under 6 seconds
Mk7 GTI. DBP, DCC, Winter pack. Mine since new, July 2013.
GTI no. 4. Golf no. 5.  VW no. 7.

This thread made me think and see what i was getting driving normally (no changing when the car said so etc and a couple of blasts on the way home ) to see what i would average for my daily commute of 32miles each day since this thread was posted.

After the morning 16mile trip. Averaged is quite high, (see below)
On the way home i hit lots of traffic in main rush hour in a main city so it takes twice as long to get home and the average drops to ~28mpg on the 16 mile home trip.

Total average
