rear wiper not parking properly
« on: 17 March 2011, 17:40 »
Hi guys, I have a little puzzler I could do with some help on. The rear wiper on my 89 8v doesnt always park in the right place, either when on intermittent or when used with the washer jet. On each wipe instead of moving all the way over and back, it stops about 2/3 across the screen. If I let it do about 6 wipes, it will return to its start position. First I thought it was a duff relay, so tried another but still the same. I then replaced the motor today but still no better. I tried adjusting the position of the arm inside the tailgate (like you would if making it lay flat), but it doesnt matter where I position it it only ever wipes about 2/3 of the screen.

Is there a duff resistor or something? I cant work out where to look next.

As above, most likely broken wires inside the rubber sleeve that runs from the roof to the tailgate... open the tailgate, locate the rubber sleeve (next to left hand hinge) pull back the rubber sleeve, to expose the wires, and inspect carefully (they break because of the movement on the wires, when opening, a closing the tailgate.. bridge any breaks with a new piece of wire, soldered, and heat shrunk into place...

Could also be that the motor is knackered.

He's tried 2 different motors, and same fault occurs, most likely is broken wires, another symptom of this fault, is usually the No plate lamps are not working either

both motors old, actually the one I put in the other day seems to work faster than the old one, but still stops in the same place. Number plate lights both work fine too. I'll have a look at the wires in the tailgate, thats probably it I would think, makes sense anyway!

Cheers for the replies
