alot more involved than just bolting it on mate. Use the search thread as it has been covered before and explains what is needed. Will cost abit to do depending on what your current mods are.

Not sure why you say over 250bhp as most people want a quicker car and to get that you want good torque figures. BHP is just holding the speed in high gears.

over 250bhp can be had quite easily from a k04-02x, most only achieve ~260bhp though as a result of the restrictive exhaust manifold (it's more restrictive than the k03 manifold)

The oil and water lines are each ~£70-90 from Audi
If interested I've got a k04-022 in excellent condition with oil and water lines and the manifold in the classified section

dont quote me on this but i think i have read somewhere that even the standard k04-022/023 oil lines have issues when fitting as there only just long enough to fit onto a 1.8t mk4 lump.

if your putting it in a mk1 then i would say your better off going for a k03 hybrid using rs6 k04 internals. The torque will be around 300lb/ft torque and give a nice 270-280bhp depending on supporting mods. And the up side is you dont need a new manifold or oil & water lines. Just be a case of upgrading to a larger tip, maf, good 3" downpipe and straight through exhaust, FMIC, bigger injectors and fuel pump etc

So you are saying a KO3 hybrid (essentially KO4-001 - KO3 with KO4 internals so smaller housing),  is going to produce more bhp and torque than a larger turbo in the form of the KO4-023 (larger housing, but same internals essentially)?

I thought it was basically like below:
KO3 - max's out at 200bhp ish
KO3s - max's out at 230-240bhp ish
KO3 Hybrid/K04-001 - max's out at 260bhp ish
KO4-023 - Max's out at 280bhp ish

Sureley nobody would go down the KO4 route as it would be easier and cheaper to do KO3 hybrid and get more power?

k03 hybrid and k04-001 are a bit different, a hybrid you could be looking at 300bhp if you like spending a lot of money, k04-001 is cheaper. k03s is a lot more cheaper and not far behind a k04-001 in the power stake, max is about 250bhp i believe.

if i were you id go with a k03, the k04s extra power isnt as useable as the k03s, lots of people whove upgraded from an s to a 4 have wished they stuck where they were (wazzer i believe) it holds boost a bit better

a k04-001 is not the same as a hybrid k03, and the reason the k03 hybrid produces more power than a standard k04-02x is down to the exhaust manifold; the k04-02x manifold is more restrictive than the k03, so too is the downpipe design.

So that still doesnt explain why people do a KO4 upgrade instead of going down the KO3 hybrid route as it is cheaper? - Slightly confused why people bother with the massive hassell of KO4 if KO3 hybrid is better, and cheaper and easier to do?
