I have recently brought a 1997 2L 8V VW Golf Convertible MK3. When I brought the car it started to overheat, since then We have replaced the water pump, disconected the thermostat, flushed and bled the colling system about 4 times and replaced the head gasket and various other seals. It has also had an oil change and new oil filter. Also replaced the radiator sensor.
When the car has been driven for about 10-15 mins the pipe inbetween the reservour and the engine block goes rock solid, the gage goes up and the fan kicks in. When you pull over to have a look the pipe is really hard and when opening the reservour lid there is a hole load of compression in there and it spurts out. Sometimes the heater will get hot and then it will start to overheat when you top the water up a bit more the heaters only blow out cold air.
I dont know what else it could be all the pipes seem to be gettign hot and there i no visible leakage of coolant, when the system was flushed it didnt look as though there was a blockage anywhere. Please help we have now ran out of ideas and probably the next step I will take would be a new engine, but I would be very gratefull for some advice.
Thanks
