Cabin rattle
« on: 14 March 2011, 11:13 »
Morning all.

I know that the MK5's have a lot of rattles and that the build quality is not great, but this one is really starting to get on my nerves.

There is a horrible rattling noise coming from under the passenger side footwell. I've had a look under the car but the under tray is in the way. I cant see anything inside the cabin that could be knocking around, but literally the smallest bump in the road makes this knocking noise!

Does anyone know of any faults in that particular area? Is there a way to get under the floor pan without putting the car on a ramp? Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I have had a rattle which seemed to be behind the dash clocks (removed when I had CC and a Canbus fitted) however I did a bit of digging around at the weekend and noticed that part of my wheel arch liner had come away.  I'm 95% this is the root cause of the problem.

Remove the side trims on the sides of the dash (see manual for fusebox cover removal info)
theres two screws that screw into the blukhead behind these panels that are known to come loose or not be tight from new.

Holepunch, you were spot on. I took my car to get the coil pack replaced and mentioned to the guys there that there was a knocking noise from the wheel arch.

Picked the car up last night and the noise was completely gone!

legend! thanks very much.

No problem! I haven't had chance to fix mine yet (wheel off job) but I'm also hoping it will sort out a a creaking sound I get when turn the steering wheel left (fingers crossed).

I've got a tinkly rattle somewhere behind the dash. Sounds like sleighbells and drive me crazy. I suspect it is a loose washer on a loose screw but probably impossible to track down.
