GTis will be about 35mpg, can get over 40mpg with the 8v apparently.  take a bit to look after as they are old cars, buy on body condition, mechanicals are cheap to buy and easy too fit.

They are brilliant to drive  Try and find a sorted one already, 2l 16v on sorted chassis.

8v and 16v.. kjet and digi.. oh and G60

get an 8v digi or a 2l 16v ABF.. mine was a 8v digi and was great im now fitting a 2l 16v from a mk3 golf so should be more reliable as newer and more power 150bhp out the box..

GTI's are 8v and 16v, 8v's slower but more of a daily drive with low down grunt, the 1.8 needs revving past 4000rpm to get its 140bhp. Easily solved by getting a 2.0l engine ( ABF code from mk3 gti 16v or 9A 2.0l 16v) as these have plenty low down torque for normal driving then even more when revved   Was your mk4 gti mapped? If not then the 2.0l and the 1.8 16v will feel much faster!

as its the 1.8t its quite thirsty even when driven gently!  :embarassed:
Will need it to be used as a daily driver but want something with a bit of poke for when the mood strikes! haha

yer they are sh!t on fuel, bout 30mpg my one used to get me! Get a 2.0l 16v one mate will feel fast as F compared to the mk4 and the handling. I dont often take mine past 4000rpm only when I'm in the mood and it still feels fast going from 2.5k to 4k. It may take longer to find but a clean example should really be cheaper then an original clean 1.8 gti. Like I said buy on the body, I made this mistake now I'm paying for it lol.
