insurance on more than 1 car
« on: 12 March 2005, 14:55 »
I have found a very nice mk2 GTI 8v , that I am tempted to buy. I phoned tesco to see how much the insurance would be ( i have my impreza with them) they want ?695, cos they will only apply the no claims to one car.  I have no points, am 39 and the car will be garaged.

Does anyone know who may do it cheaper.  Its only a 91, so I am guessing its too young for a classic policy.

All ideas welcome so I can join the world of GTI ownership...selling the Subaru is one option, but I can work that one out myself !

if it was a 1990 you could get it on classic, you could still try hic or someone like that they might take into consideration you other policy. How about a very low limited milage that heklps brig the price done a lots esp as it is yoru second car

Admiral (i assume elephant too) will honour your NCB on a second car but you can only protect the NCB on your main car. You may find though that they want to charge a stupid amount to cover your scooby.

I will third that, Elephant are one of the cheapest I have found.

I am paying 470 fully comp for MK 5 GTi, 2 years NCB, aged 32. They were way cheaper than anybody else I could find.

having suggested Adrian Flux, (which is who the Golf is with atm), sounds daft but try Direct Line.

they doubled up my NCB on the MG and Rover last year and gave a cracking a quote straight off. so good i insured both cars at the same time and cancelled their existing policies with the other jokers.

G6Dub,

That is one problem with elephant, when you come to renew or make changes it is a rip off. I found this out cos I had done a new quote for new GTi to see how much it would be, then they sent me renewal for 2.0 GT TDi which was 200 quid more than GTi, work that one out.

What I had to do was cancel and take out new policy with them to get cheaper price, and ended up getting new GTi cheaper than they wanted for the Diesel. Mad system and I wouldnt have found out about it if I hadnt been changing my car.

So now every year I will do a completely new quote and in theory it should work out cheaper than what they want for renewal. I wonder how many people they manage to rip off in this way.

I had the same problem with my cabrio. I already have insurance with full no claims on my day to day runner so I took out a limited mileage insurance with footman james. I'm limited to 5000 miles a year and it's fully comp with breakdown cover for ?100/year. I think you'll struggle to beat that

I'm sure they will insure yours even though it may not be classed as a 'classic'..........yet.
