Golf GTI forum trip to the seller's place
Imagine that, a convoy of golfs driving past his house, once at the garden doing a burnout for every golf that passes , would be awsome haha , i 'd only have to pay the compound charges if i want the car back. but by the time police have finished with it, would probly be £100s if not thousends.  :undecided:

this is a really sad story from a very honest sounding guy..Your a much better person than me mate,

I would have just kept it before calling the police. If it wasn't stolen they would have left it and not helped you at all anymore its a private dispute (car sales) and has nothing to do with the police whether its a 1.6 or a 2.0 they don't care.Soon as it came up stolen they have no concern for you a serize the car.Obvoiusly they know your not the guilty party as YOU CALLED THEM! but they don't care.

If i had my an idea it had a dodgy engine i would have just left it myself and run it into the ground 5-6 years etc or went back to the guys house demanding my money back.As usual in the UK doing everything by the book gets you screwed over!

Utter bollox!

I defanitly wouldn't keep it if I know it was stolen.

I mean yeah its not every day that the police come looking at your car to see if the engine code matches ect ect ect.

But I know people who its happend too. My mate was fixing his car with another mate, the other mate was in his van, my mate had gone inside to make a brew.  The police pulled over to ask what he was doing (as it was 11pm, and the car was up on axel stands with a van over the drive, when my mate came out with the cuppas he asured them its his car and that the lad in the van wasn't pinching the alloys. Anyway they ended up spending the next hour making sure that everything on the van was legit, checking engine codes, radio, basically everything, even checked each tyre to make sure that they were legal.

Also if you crashed and the police looked at your car and saw the engine was not only a 2.0 therefore voiding your insurance but also stolen I doubt youde be in a good position.

Sorry but all this talk of visiting his house is plain daft, 1) where will it get you and 2) it might be the case he never knew.

As far as my motoring life goes now,7 years in cars 3 years on bikes. I’ve always paid my,insurance, road tax,MOT, Car/bikes kept it tip top condition ,I've never had any benefit when it comes to police regarding motoring EVER. Only negatives..Points for 37 in a 30mph..points for 1 L plate missing..Points for a slightly weeping fork seal (dangerous use of a vehicle apparently not a re-MOt)fines etc etc

My cars has been vandalised..broken into/My motorbikes have been stolen/kicked over numerous times and I’ve had 0% results. I woke up one morning for work at 6am noticed the garage open ,bikes gone! call the police in a panic..they asked me if the robbers where there right now..I said of course not....What happened?
They sent someone round 2 days later who wasn't even a police man to have a look "ahh yes they've used bolt croppers" Thanks mate didn't notice that, I was thinking they'd eaten through the locks with there teeth ..silly me

And now out of all my experiance I simply can't stand police.I know there all differnt people etc but as a hole my experiance has been terible in my adult life.

Anyhows rant over.I hope somthing good comes for you mate you seem to be a far too honest person,A rare thing nowadays

Update

Absolutly nothing has happend yet, they have a part time officer in nottingham on the case, she has been off for 2 weeks, and hasent even recived the documents yet (that have been faxed twice)

situation of getting my money back is , i will probably win the case in court, but i have been told to expect a payment, of £5 a week off seller,so theres no justice there

looks like gettin the car back is quite likely, wether it comes back with the 2.0 engine in or not, i cant afford to run /insure it

could anyone give me some advice on how much i could pick up a 1.6 engine for, fitted ect
and will the ecu, thats attached to the 2.0 be the original for the 1.6 or will that need replacing aswell?

Ecu will be different also I am not sure what other mods would have been done to get the 2.0 in and running.

To be honest what I'd do is sell whatever you get back and try and squeeze as much off that as possible. Buy something real cheap that will get you around and just try and save up for a better car. Think of the positives. You'll be having £5 a week back now, I know it's not much but when you find yourself real tight you can always count on a fiver appearing weekly
