Daily mk2
« on: 06 March 2011, 22:36 »
Looking to get rid of one car and looking for one good all rounder. At the minute we have a mk2 and a bora tdi. The mrs does 30 miles a day so I need something with economy in mind. The bora averages 45 mpg and the mk2...nice!! But with the 5p difference in petrol-diesel we could go for a petrol that does about 37mpg and still be better off with just having the one car.

Do GOOD 8vs really do upto 40mpg or would a mk2 ABF be better? The bora is a nice car but a bit boring.

If other 8vs are anything like mine 200 miles to a tank is no good

Digi 8v properly set up and some new injectors should give you 40 MPG +

Not to sure on the ABF in a MK2 , but it would be better than the 30 MPG the standard 1.8 16v gets.

I use mine as a daily, do about 200miles a week.
Last time I worked out MPG, got about 390 miles from the tank, about 39mpg from about 130 miles of motorway and the rest from town and A roads.

thats good, our mk3 1.8 wont normally get that (maybe 36mpg average)

not saying what the VR gets

I don't think a semi will give the same results

I drive 31 miles to work each day in my mk2 1.8 16V and that does 35mpg.

Are these MFA readings or tank to tank calculations? Those figures are really good! Our bora is only doing 45mpg on average. But that is regardless to how it's driven :)

My old 8V would do 40mpg all day long on normal day to day driving on normal unleaded. My 16V does about 35mpg on super unleaded.

These are properly worked out figures, so taking into account the cost of regular unleaded against diesel, and 8V should cost around the same as the Bora in fuel.

Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Now are you all sure?

Sure enough for me to take out my gas guzzling 2.0 8v and put in a standard PB?
