hello everyone
« on: 06 March 2011, 10:47 »
Hi I've currently got an 04 reg 1.7cdti astra and im going to swap it in for a MK4 golf gti (2.0l one insurance companies are already charging me enough as it is!)
I was hoping for advice on what i should be looking for when buying a mk4 gti and will it be much faster than my astra at the moment?
cheers dan

You should be looking for the 1.8t (150 BHP) not the 2.0 (115 BHP) if your looking for something quicker than your Astra.

welcome  its really not worth bothering with the 2.0 and especially not worth remapping as for the same kinda money you get a 50bhp gain with the 1.8t, try a quote on one i doubt it will be much difference

fear is temporary, regret lasts forever...

no they can't screw 15bhp from a 2.0 8v n/a engine just by mapping it and no you will not see a massive difference. One of the worst engines ever created by vw.

Fair one may leave the remapping anything else i can do to up the speed bearing in mind i cant really spend that much,
also tried getting quotes on the 1.8 turbo and its an extra grand over the 2.0l as im only 20 and it will be my second year of driving.

yep the 1.8 20v non turbo is the better engine. 10 more bhp, better fuel economy and may just be a bit cheaper on the insurance (i'm guessing as it's technically a smaller engine)
