Mk2 GTI 8V NO HEADLIGHTS, NO WIPERS AND NO HEATER BLOWER???

Hi there, I have recently bought my first mk2 gti after owning a mk2 1.3.
I have a problem with it, as when the ignition is turned on the headlights, wipers and blower works untill I turn on the engine. When the engine is on, the headlights, wipers and blower dont work?? Only on a couple of occasions, generally in the morning these work with the engine running. If I then turn the engine off and restart, these things stop working   I dont think it is the relay, could it be the starter switch? The gti also has an after market imobiliser fitted could this have anything to do with it??? Please help!!!!

 have a look under the dash , around the ignition switch too ,see if the alarm wiring is maybe shorting on other cables ?
also check your earth connections , sounds like it may be a combination of stuff ,got any sparky mates who could check it for you ?

I'd say it sounds like the ign switch on the bottom of the ign key barrel. It seems like everything will function,which proves mo major wiring faults. If it was purely lights being the problem I'd say look into/test the lighting setup/switch, but as the only way they're linked to the fan blower and wipers etc is through the switch it sounds like that's going to be the culprit. A mate had a similar problem,and a new £5 switch from gsf sorted it out.

wiggle relay #18 on the fusebox, if that doesnt help as above id be pretty sure its your ignition switch
