The sensor in the expansion tank is a level sensor, it will not tell you if the coolant mix is wrong, it will tell you when it is low.

Did you notice how the first guy solved his temp light problem just by replacing the coolant?  Think what you like, I'm sure the sensor also monitors the antifreeze concentration.  The only thing I'm not sure of if its all MK2s that do it or only the late ones with the round expansion tank.

thats a new one on me also

didnt do it on my late 16v (round bottle) and doesnt do it on my current 16v (early bottle)

and my late 16v was running on pure water at one stage!!

I was thinking along the lines off if you had too much antifreeze it would flash, as the conductivity would be too low?  You don't want to be running too much antifreeze as it is less efficient at transfering heat than water.

I'm doubting myself now, if only I had a level sensor to do some testing with :grin:

Yes Rubjonny, that is correct.
Too much antifreeze will probably make the light flash, but it would have to be virtually 100% antifreeze ?:laugh:
This is because antifreeze is actually a poor conductor.
So you are now infact contradicting yourself ?:evil:
