So, fitted the throttle body last night, primed the oil pump, put the distributor in and turned the key ..... spins over nicely, but doesn't even try and fire
off on holiday for a few days so will have to do some investigating when I get back.
Preliminary findings, before disconnecting battery and packing for holiday, were that fuel pump primes, but car doesn't stink of fuel out the exhaust after cranking so reckon the problem is at the fuel rail. Also, the ISV makes a lot of noise, not just the humming they are meant to make. Put a spare one on it and this hums nicely, but makes a loud clicking every few seconds. Two knackered isv's or dodgy wiring? hmmmm
