Do ya'll know what this is?

i've wondered for ages what my local specialist was using when trying to find out what was wrong with my? car.

Partly in combination with VAG-COM he was going through a set of diagnostics procedures in PDFs on his laptop to try work out what the problem was.

I figured it was some dealership level stuff that they took when they left the stealership they once worked for.. after some digging online i'm pretty sure ELSA is what the guy was using

i initially had difficulty finding our what versions of ELSA support what cars.

each version comes on varying amounts of cd's.. the latest i think comes on 3 dvd's.. its huge!

For v3.0 just the VW stuff is 8 CD's. This version supports both MK2 and MK3 Golf's.

This (russian?) site appears to sell what i assume to be bootlegs of the CD set.. i'm yet to find an official source for information.

http://www.autocd.com/

put "elsa" in the search box and it will bring up information on various versions.

anyone know anymore?

p.s... images for various versions are on EMULE?

Hi there,

Elsa is basically a workshop manual and technical information centre.

Dealerships use this for every aspect of the job:

Finding repair procedures

Repair operation times

Technical service bulletins and information

Damage number viewing for warranty information

Body repair manuals

Maintenance tables and Service sheet production

etc.etc.etc

Dealerships all connect to a server which requires a password to carry out functions which require VIN no's, so if you were to get hold of some CD's, i am not sure how much information you would have access to, but it is a wealth of knowledge! Invaluble in diagnostic and repair!!!

Oh and by the way ELSA for some reason stands for         --------          Electronic Service Information System

I guess ELSA sounded better than ESIS

i assume ELSA is german for Electronic Service Information System.. just like
ETKA is german for Electronic Parts Catalogue ;)

and btw.. there are cracks/passwords out there for the CD's so it'll be no problemo!

Are these not available to buy in legit form?
