Air box mods

I have been reading a few bits about air filters and induction kits and have come to the conclusion that the best way to go is to mod the original box. can any one give me an idea of how you go about doing this, as in how manys holes, where, what size and whatever else you do to them. Also what are the advantages and disadvantages of doing all of this?

I drilled holes on the wing side of the box. Used the biggest drill bit i could find. Also took out the plastic cover that sits on the inner wing.
There are no advantages and i think its a load of bollux. just a dirty airbox and a nice ''wooooshh'' when you floor it

i shoved in a foam cradle ditching the box completely, the only improvement was the tick over from cold didn't hunt anymore.
