Going to buy a mk3

Hey guys I'm looking at buying a 8v gti this weekend. Few questions it has a full mot  but no service history. Also registered car c due to damaged drivers rear panel. Also has a squeak on steering wheel. It's going for £500 from a dealer I'm not mechanical minded but have worked on a ship  :grin: what might the squeak be and cost to fix?

You should be fine with a Mk3 then! As you know it has been in an accident check all the panel gaps to make sure it should be on the road.  :wink:

check with your insurers as some may not cover/ask more for a cat c

What year is it, £500 seems steep for a cat c mk3.

Is it the steering wheel itself or could it it be your PAS belt?

Don't worry too much about it being a Cat C my VR6 is a Cat C with no service history and we don't have MOTs! Took it to Portsmouth on the rollers and got 187.5bhp was told it was running perfectly! :cool:

Is it coming from the wheel itself? On my old 8v it started to squeek after i got it back from having the ignition switch changed then it stopped after about a week!  :grin:

I would also try and bring the price down!

Steering wheel itself it was up for £600 I've got him down to £500 im test driving it this sat hopefully

If it is squeeking from the steering column then it could be a dry top bearing, better to replace the column if it is that.
