Hi

Hi

I stumbled upon this forum after a google search for mk4 Golf GTi mods and I was very impressed. The section on project cars and the various transformations some of the members have done are quite staggering and a real inspiration.

I am not completely new to the vw scene, i had a mk3 Gti and although it was completely standard I really loved driving it and it was a real heart breaker when I had to let her go - especially as I have seen her since and moron driving her now has completely trashed it
The only reason it had to go was that my girlfriend was only 21 at the time and despite my full NCD the insurance was silly 1k+ So we went for something far too sensible instead but I have always longed for another sweet looking GTi.

Two years on and today I shall be taking the keys for my new ride - a 2001 mk4 GTi 8v 3door and I am really excited (pic to follow tonight). I know I probably should have gone for the 1.8T but I couldn't pass this little beauty by. Besides the Fiancee (not girlfriend anymore ) wouldn't haven't been able to be on the insurance for either model without the cost going over the 1k mark again.

At the moment the car is completly standard so I am going to be looking around here for some ideas on ways to improve the look and general performance of the car. I know a re-map isn't going to be any good but a new cat back exhaust and some new rims are definitely going to be my first port of call.

Any tips or suggestions of places/websites (fleabay is a given) that are a great and cheap source for bits will be greatly received.

Welcome mate! Get some pics of the new motor up! Ive got a mk3 and a mk4 myself and while the mk3 is more fun to drive the mk4 is a really nice car! Dont expect it to be fast though but you can make it look nice!

I have just spent the last week looking through various dub projects and fleabay for bits to start putting on the car but I have no idea where to start lol.

Funds are tight at the moment so might have to look through the thread "mods for under £100" to get the ball rolling.
