HI

I have also just joined the site, and am looking for advice on the ipod situation.  I am about to get a Mkv golf gt Tdi as a company car and want to use my ipod.  The car will come with the standard single disk head unit.  My itrip was uselss in the demo car i had, does anyone know if the cables mentioned below will work with the single disk VW head unit?

Thanks for your help

you'd have to go down the FM modulator path if you use the standard headunit. There isn't a AUX input to use

right being a bit of an anything hi-tech numpty, i saw an article on a car that didn`t have a head unit and ran an ipod instead now i quite fancy having a set up like this but what do i need? and how much is it going to cost me?
c`mon dizzy sort me out please

I think i know what you mean mate. When i was a poor student i didnt have a head unit and just used a diskman sat on the floor with velcro. I had it linked directly to the amp. It worked very well and was also very cheap! You do need a system powered by an amp to do it this way though.

Does anyone know if theRCD 500 unit which is an upgrade on the Mark 5 GTI has an AUX input (ie the unit with the built in 6 disc changer in the dash) if so where can I buy the cable to connect my iPOD ?

I dont' think it does, but I could be wrong.
Not many factory units have aux inputs.

Thanks for replying dizzy and I'm sure you know alot more about these things than I do but it is possible according to the manual to connect an external CD auto-changer to the main unit(altho there is already a built in 6 disc changer) and there is also available as a dealer fit option an MP3 player which is stored in the boot ( very expensive) . I was thinking it surely must be possible to plug the iPod into the same input port as these or is it not as simple as that ?
