Hi chaps,

Have an 86 mk1 caddy and have swapped from a 1.6 petrol (points type ignition) to a mk2 1.8 8v'er with the tci-h box.

I thought i had carb jet woes, but i think i'm getting a flat advance curve instead: Runs proper amazing at higher revs when way too advanced. Runs like a wet fart when i put my foot down and set up correctly. obv i dont want to run it way to advanced though, so i'm driving a wet fart about...

As it's my first engine conversion, it's obviously something i've done wrong. I think it could be a vacuum advance issue:

there is a black vacuum line that is plumbed into the servo>inlet manifold line and went to the vacuum bell thingy on the old points-type dizzy. as it's got no-where to go on the new dizzy, i just blocked it off...

Having done a load of reading on here, I'm wondering if there was an ecu on the mk2 gti that did advance calcs, whereas the vacuum helped out on the old 1.6??  and if i've overlooked something, like a vacuum advance adaptor or something?! or installing an ecu?

- apologies, enthusiastic noob with no-one to ask in the real world!

p.s. it's not a k-jet issue, i've got the injectors blocked off and on a dtml 32/34 weber.

edit -- problem solved, any pre 88 mk2 golf gti dizzy will be needed, the digifant injection lumps are controlled by an ecu and knock sensor.

if you take the injectors and have a carb setup, you'll need that vacuum line and the vacuum advance dizzy, or you'll have a very flat curve indeeeeeed
