Road noise and Comfort

To rack the brains of the more experienced, would changing the tyres to 225 x 45 x r18 help in reducing road noise and making the ride comfort a little bit better?

Cheers

Hi

A big part of the road noise is the tread and compound that tyre manufacturers use so if sticking to the same brand/model of tyre I don't think so.

For comfort, a 45 wall is slightly deeper so will give you more 'bounce' and bump absorbtion = comfort.

What are your present tyres and wheels? If they are 225/40 R18s then going to 225/45 R18 is not an option as it is not an equivalent tyre. It will not only change your gearing by -3.5%* but would increase road noise considerably. It would also ruin the balance of the car. The only way to decrease road noise and improve ride comfort is to either buy a better tyre for your 18" wheels or reduce the wheel diameter to 17" and use 225/45 R17 tyres. Or better still, you should order the car with ACC.

*Speed at counter = 62 mph, Actual speed = 60 mph
Counter needs to be re-calbrated.

Look at the link below.
Tyre No1 is 225/45 R18, Tyre No2 is 225/40 R18

This will be a dated tyre soon as Continental are revising their whole range.
