DX Engine after long time not run...Video...
« on: 21 February 2011, 13:38 »
Hi again all,

I have managed to get my K Jet DX engine that's in my camper running after a long time sat still (year and half since last start and before that 5 years sat still).

At present it has no coolant in her what so ever due to mid way replacing water pipes under the van, so it means I cannot really run her up to temp.

She takes a bit of fiddling with the CO adjuster on the metering head as the cold start valve does not seem to be working, which I will sort separately soon. But once started she starts easily from then on.

Vid of her running: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5y-GfKH_pTY

Vid of her revving: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nI9QUIv5NQ

I was wondering if this amount of white smoke is usual for a engine not run in a while? And will it "burn" off?
If anything it seemed to get worse the longer I left the engine to run (stirring up the oil that's been sat with condensation etc for so long?)

When I hold my hand nearer the exhaust I can really hear a kind of puffing noise. It is also worth mentioning that at present it is using the 1.6 td exhaust manifold and box, not my choice but until its MOT'd and road worthy I cannot take her to have a custom down pipe fabricated.

The injectors did all seem to work last time I pulled them and tested, but I know on other occasions I tested a couple sometimes didn't always spray well. Could this puffing sound be a piston not quite getting enough fuel delivery?

Thanks

I should say that after so long sitting there could be any number of problems. Your tappets will be mega bunged up and your oil will have turned back into an almost crude state lol, buy some cheap oil and just run water as coolant for now so your not waisting money, then drop all the oil when she is up to temp with a new filter (buy two filters) pour the new but slightly crappy stuff in. Leave her running for a good hour then leave overnight and do the same the next day before dropping this new oil out. Then change the filter, put proper coolant in and give it some fresh good oil
