Rear Bumper Brackets
« on: 20 February 2011, 21:39 »
Hi,

Restoring my Mk2 Golf 16v Turbo, its been off the road for a couple of years and its either sort it now or leave it to rot.

I have had the car for about 16 years so quite sentimental about it.

Anyway, cut out around the filler and putting in a repair panel, and cut out drivers rear arch as its gone, and ordered a rear panel to put it, however the rear big bumper brackets are rotten (the bits that the bolts go into).

Does anyone know if small bumper brackets fit the big bumper iron? Could I take off the brackets from a small rear bumper and bolt them onto my big bumper?

Cheers

Yeah my bad, bought a derelict cottage a couple of years back and its sat outside until I could build the garage! Its now in, it actually didn't look too bad until I started taking bits off, its weird but its all around the drivers side rear, so far everywhere else doesn't seem too bad.

Hoping rear arch, rear panel and filler repair panel will get it sorted, but will see. And a full respray....

Then its an engine rebuild, I also have another turbo to go on as it was smoking a little bit.

Yeah that's the plan, want it mint again and I will use it on dry Sundays!

Had a quick look at the link, couldn't see any bumper brackets, its the arms that come off the bumper iron and bolt to the chassis that I am after, will probably have to buy another rear bumper as haven't been able to find any.

I do have some small bumpers at my old mans house so was wondering if I could take the arms off them....

Do the brackets unbolt on the back then? I have a spare scrap bumper think the brackets were ok just the plastic was battered

Yeah the brackets unbolt from the main bumper iron, just been out to the garage to have another look, all the metal is pretty rusty, I reckon I would be better off getting another bumper, anyone got one in north wales? I reckon postage from the Isle of Wight would be pretty steep wouldn't it?
