Newbie post...What sort of polish/wax is best for pearl paint?

Ceramic coating? Never heard that before, i just thought clearcoat was like paint but without any colour? I know new Mercs have a ceramic element in the paint.

ceramic coating is alot harder than normal clearcoats and more resistant to scratching etc, normal clearcoat can be soft through to hard, hard being on the vag cars etc, and soft on stuff like jap motors.
ceramic although resistant to scratching can scratch and is a pain to correct but menzerna, wolfs polishes etc are now producing very high standard polishes to tackle these probs.

Rmese, you know how too rub people the wrong way lol. Plenty of people on this forum pride themselves through detailing a car. So all your crap about not using wax is pretty poor. Do abit of research next time before you try giving advice, especially when its not really advice  dont be such a noob!

Haze, thats like my old Colt, that was Jap in red. I was lazy with cleaning it, and the paint starting fading really bad, so luckily my mate a door or 2 away, gave me som colour restorer, works just like t-cut, but doesnt take as much of the paint in the process, and brung the paint back up too brand new. Obv the fading was caused in the first place due too my lack of cleaning the car, hence the dirt sinking into the paint too fade it lol!!!

your old colt didnt have a clearcoat, the paint fades is caused by uv sun light bleaching the colour out then the contaminents attack the surface of the paint ie pitting it then the oxygen gets in and starts breaking down the paint which is whats coming off on your pad, sealants are the best way to stop this from happening, wax is for bling and beading and sealants offer better protection and longer durabilty.

I've been reading some of the FAQs on here and I'm really surprised at the scale of this detailing lark! I reckon I'm gonna go for the need for speed - it seems like a good all in one product and pretty quick too.

Any suggestions on how/what I should clean her with first? My idea was to go for the two bucket method with mitt and use a standard car shampoo then dry off. Will I notice any difference if I use a slightly better shampoo?

Also my plastic and rubber trims are a bit faded, will back to black do the job? I read about peanut oil being used, anyone tried it? Do you do your plastics before or after polishing?

I'm sorry if these questions may seem a bit stupid, I just need a few pointers really...I'm a total novice at this.

A quality shampoo like Dodo Juice Born to be Mild is what I would recommend, can't really buy better than this and it's only £8.95 for 250ml, any shampoo will be fine though (within reason).

Dress your plastic trim last, something like Chemical Guy's New Look Trim Gel is what I use, never tried back to black or peanut butter sorry.

Don't apologise for the questions, keep them coming, better that than doing something wrong

The thing to bare in mind is that although the products your buying are a little bit more expensive initially, they will last considerably longer than most cheaper alternatives, so it'll all come out in the wash! (pun intended :embarassed:)
