Not another engine conversion question !
« on: 19 February 2011, 09:35 »
Has anybody out there carried out an engine conversion to a mk3 estate ? The base car will be a '95 estate and the donor is a '96 2.0 AGG.

Reason being is the estate is a straight no rot minter but the engine is knackered and I have a mk3 gti which is cosmetically tired but the engine has only just clocked 80k so plenty of life left and 3 dogs into the back of a 3 door golf just doesnt go !!

Is it as straight forward as removing the old engine and fitting the new one ? Anyone got a guide or pics of it being done or even fancy saving me a job and doing it for me

Cue endless comments on why and for what power gains

cheers

Paul

Easy enough to sort with a donor car, engine loom and ecu will need to be changed.

Lots of different ways to sort the brakes etc but you could also switch everything from the GTI as well.

Is the estate a petrol btw.

 as i said, just swap everything over as required could work out a lot easy if you drop the complete subframe and switch it all over that would mean running 5 stud wheels, you would then need to switch the rear brakes to match.

Or leave it 4 stud and uprate the brakes.

Id definitely opt for the 5 stud wider track GTI option myself seeing as you've got a full donor car sitting there already.

It's the same as swaping to any none GTi / VR6 MK3 :) pretty simple but i wasn't very mechanical to start with so it's taking me a bit longer :D

The 8v will easier though as the gearbox is shift rod on both cars and a lot of electrics will be the same.
