heater control panel bulb change?
« on: 18 February 2011, 10:57 »
Hi.....to much of a ball ache to post pictures on this site....but I've seen one here----->http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-Mk2-Golf-Jetta-heater-facia-control-panel-/270705056373?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f07475a75#ht_3388wt_989

my problem is that it looks like a sealed unit ....how would you go about replacing the bulb in this unit. I have the exact same thing as the seller on the ebay listing.

Thanks to the one or two people that will reply.

p.s. for all the mardy people that moan for nothing.....I've tried the search and I have come up with nothing. It might be there...but I haven't been able to find it

They are a sealed unit and changing the bulb is a real PITA!!

It can be done but IMO you might as well buy another one.

I was thinking along the same lines.

Do VW still make these or is there anywhere I could get one from?

Thanks for the reply my man.

NLA from VW - Ebay is your best option...

BUT make sure its a VDO one and that the bulb works...

The problem with ebay is the seller can always say "well, it was working when I took it out."
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Some panels can be carefully be prised open and if you are handy with a soldering iron you can replace the blub.

The other option is to cut around the holder - pull it out and replace the bulb that way.

This isnt particularly difficult to do at all... Just take the panel off, carefully remove the grey section (go easy as it is thin in places). Remove old bulb, solder in new LED, with the CLR in the feed to the plug (much more room then). I did this, and also painted the grey bit black, to match all the other panels, dont know why VW made it grey!

All this is from memory, done about three years ago, so instructions are a bit vague...
