Ah, i see.  It's a tight schedule and I'm working all week too :undecided:

Old VW's are like the rusty gift that keeps on giving, peel off another layer and find another surprise.

This is a wee aside but I came across these and this is the car that gave rise to my username. Miss that car.

I give you....... the original "badness"...

Not been feeling the love much of late for the Mk2 but have been trying to stick at it. Some photo's

Fat Boab puts in an appearance to lend his fabrication skills, Alex popped up too but I didn't get a photo. Cheers guys :rthumb:

New floor tacked in

Ground down and Sealed

Underside

Undersealed/ stonechipped

One of the piles of scrap I've pulled off the car

Interior back in, mostly

Spare door straightened and primed after getting walloped in storage...

Bit of colour on the door jambs prior to fitting

Shiney, still to be lacquered too, so quite pleased.

Reet, few things arrived in the post over the past few days.

Perhaps a little ahead of schedule but it was a bargain so had to get it, completely unmolested, all sensors and even has a new filter in it.

*edit, even if it is the wrong one for what I need. Ah well.

Got my new compressor from my folks as a b'day present so kudos to them.

Got one of these, 380lbs of torque. Nice.

:ninja: Bought myself one of these, apparently the hose is guaranteed....forever

My BBS caps have seen better days so I found some suitable OEM ones I had lying around from another project

And in our spot the difference round, all replaced with VAG oem bits, bar the poly bits, which cost less than expected

Finally got round to start stripping the wishbones that I got off my mate Boab.

But more on them later...

It died from chronic metal cancer, an ignominious end for such a faithful and noble steed. At the time I lacked the skills or place to work. Never again though. And I will have another black more door...

Front nearside wing repeater missing
Front offside wing repeater missing
Rear nearside wheel bearing excessive play
Rear offside wheel bearing excessive play
Fuel pump loose
Incomplete weld within 30cm of body mounting (not my welding I hasten to add)

So, people who say that you can get through an MOT with smoothed wings on a post '87 are talking balls. That was even with Alex talking to an MOT tester friend of his to double check that it'd be ok.

So in process of reinstating wing repeaters, albeit mk3 items as it'l go with my ABF if/ when i fit it.

Sorted the wee bit of sill that was ropey, but this was the welding from a "professional body shop" that was previously hidden by the 90 spec body kit. Anyhoo I've sorted their bodge and think that this will hope fully be he last of them. They were the ones who put the sunroof drain in the boot, which I've reinstated correctly now. See if people just did their jobs properly....
See below

Anyway, pic's

Mk3 indicators in a mk2 wing, will post up some pic's when I'm a bit further on. Anybody else seen it done before?
I've subsequently tinted the indicators as the orange ones are horrid.

New fog, indicator, brake bulbs etc

Roberto working his magic fingers to get the lights working again, a saga in itself.

Replaced the rotten passenger door (cheers Alex, and for the wheel bolts at 1230am)

New door handles, I can now lock my car... Hurrah!

Will be booked for a retest in none too distant future.

Oh and I got offered an unconditional place to do my VRQ in Body and Paint

Right as previously stated it failed the MOT on a few bits and pieces

Front nearside wing repeater missing
Front offside wing repeater missing
Rear nearside wheel bearing excessive play
Rear offside wheel bearing excessive play
Fuel pump loose
Incomplete weld within 30cm of body mounting (not my welding I hasten to add)

All been sorted now so booked in for this Monday.

A few pic's of the remedial work carried out.

This is a pic of the sill that professional body shop charged money for! Was a bit stupid leaving it but thought it would do till I got it in for paint as it had passed previous MOT's but it's fixed and much safer now.

Zinc primed up after rust treatment

Didn't have an end cap for my passenger side sill, but did have some sheet left over

Turned that into this, like my hammer?

Ground down and Seam welded for strength

All shultz'd/ Zinc primered up.

On to the wing repeaters and tiny bit of rough filling

Side by side comparison (yes, that is blood on there, but more on that later)

Wing zinc'd and primered

fitted, horrid orange ones for MOT, when I find my smoked ones they'll be going in.

In context, not 100% sold on them yet but think they'll look better when completely done. Should pass the MOT though.

Wanna see what happens when it's late and your finger gets a bit too close to the orbital sander and the disc is mount slightly off centre?

Really?

Ok, go on then...

I give you a sanding disc paper cut....

More when it's been back for MOT Cheers for looking.
