Where are you based? Are you looking for a permanent cable in your toolbox or just for playing?

Hi

I'm in Yorkshire (Huddersfield)

I'd been toying with buying one if it was cheap enough but I guess it's about having a play and seeing what I can do to make the car more personalised i.e. dial staging; MPH display etc.

If you plan on keeping your car for longer than 12 months or you if your next car is going to be within the VAG range then its a worthwhile investment as it could potentially save you hundreds in dealer diagnostic fees

Also, if you buy the HEX-CAN version you can scan all the VAG groups cars  :nerd:  Its a good way of meeting local dubbers too as you can offer to help out and recoup the cost of the lead :afro:

I bought my lead nearly 4 years ago and its been invaluable

How much would the whole kaboodle cost?

I will keep the GTI for 24 months. After which I may or may not buy a VAG car.

When I spoke to my VW Service Dept about updates etc, I was assured that at every service I would have my ECU updated and any other updates installed FOC as a complementary gesture to me. I can even have my cornering lights activated FOC. Pinch of salt?

Genuine leads are approx £250.  I got mine for £175  :smug:

You can't to ECU updates with VCDS though.  Need a different lead and software altogether

You can get original cables HERE

I had a cheap eBay one once but it kept losing comms so bought the original.
I don't mind paying, considering the effort that has been put into the development and the amount of use it has had.

I got mine from Gendan, excellent support too.  Also found out today it could read the OBD-2 info from a Honda Accord 2006, as VCDS seems to be able to read OBD-2 info aswell. Unfortunatly OBD-2 is limited and looks like it was designed for emission related stuff only.
Diagonally parked in a parallel universe.

True Snoopy and there is V-Tech and VCDS.IE but they don't show prices. The cheapest place in the UK is where I had mine from Ilexa £264.14 but their forum is crap. Oh that was the old VAT price before Christmas.
