Something wrong there, and probably the thermoswitch in the radiator (which controls when the fan should come on/off) is faulty

Faulty switch in the radiator, unplug it and see if the fans stop

Have you got air con, if so switch it off and see if they stop.

My Dads 307 does that, stay on for about 5mins after car stops :), disconnecting the battery works :)

The fan will start or continue to run on many cars once its turned off, remember it's whole point is to cool the engine down when there is no cold air rushing over it whilst driving.

it may be the rad fan after-run switch wire has snapped off and earthed itself, though i dont know where this is on a vr6 or if it even has one? there is a separate temp sensor on the engien for the 3rdfan speed and i think electric coolant pump somewhere too.

but as above it is supposed to come on after switch off for a bit, but if it stays on for hours something is wrong somewhere

There should be one on the vr6. 16v mk3 have them. Same basic electrics. Usually on the inlet somewhere.

yeah i wasnt sure if that function was taken over by the auxilery coolant temp sensor? because there isnt an over-run switch mentioned on the vr6 rad fan diagrams see

maybe. But then again from the run on diagrams i couldn't work out the run on worked for mine. Still haven't heard it kick in once engine is off after the temp has risen on heatsoak.

Do you know what temp the after run switches on at? may have a dodgy switch. Got it from danster from an older car. May try my ABF one as i know that used to kick in.
