Local dealers is your best bet and you know the right stuff ends up in your engine

My old Golf loved the stuff; never used a drop between services

What is difference between platinum and Long life? Do you actually he more miles before a service is due with long life?

Avoid longlife servicing.  The mileage you cover depends greatly on your driving style.  Longlife is designed mainly for those up and down motorways putting minimum stress on the engine.

Stick with time & distance IMO.  That's an oil change every 10K miles or 12 months, which ever occurs first :afro:

VW only recommend the oil company they have a deal with at any one time, changes quite often. I always use Castrol Edge Turbo Diesel it's expensive but is worth it i think.
