Hiya, well after driving for 20+ years I finally decided to get myself a VW.
Ive had the usual fords, vauxhalls etc but for the last 8 years I've had a Toyota Celica 1.8ST Coupe which I loved like my own child. Sadly, she needed too much money spending on her to get through the MOT (full exhaust, new brake pipes, rear discs, clutch on its way out and PAS pump dying) so I decided to chop her in for another car. I started looking 3 weeks ago and for the first few days I was set on another Celica but having driven a few on test drives (new shapes) they didnt appeal to me like my old one did.
I'd heard about the reliability, solid build of the VAG's so decided to do a bit of research. Car had to be suitable for both me and my mrs but still be able to put the smile on my face on a weekend run out so settled on a Golf. Drove a few 2.0 GTI's and was impressed muchly by them and surprised me to see that they were actually 2 groups less on the insurance than the celica! By chance I had a chance to drive the MK4 1.8 T GTI and was blown away by the drive of the car, performance wise and looks. I had then decided that a MK4 T GTI was for me so set about looking for a suitable one.
2 Weeks past and after driving a good 700 or so miles over two weekends we spotted one. 51 plate, reflex silver, FSH, unmolested example. Now I didnt really have much of a clue what to look for in regards to Golf's so other than comparing it to the previous few I'd seen/driven and realising it was head and shoulders above them all I bought her!
£2800 and 150 miles later she's at home with me and on my drive ....... before I bought her I did the usual HPI/VOSA checks and they all come back fine. All previous MOT's tally up mileage wise and all advisories are there along with receipts and a full dealer serviced book! Cambelt was done at 52k miles (14 months ago)
Already planning a trip to R-Tech for a stage 1 remap within the next few weeks ..... let the journey begin!!
