Water Ingress to Fog Lights
« on: 14 February 2011, 18:35 »
Hello folks,

I'm sure this has been posted before but has anyone had any issues with water/condensation in their fog lights?
It is booked in for the dealer to have a look at it and he did mention that they have had problems previously.  He says the condensation disappears once the lights are on and the heat evaporates the moisture.  I don't want to have to put the lights on to get it removed though!  Looks terrible as well to be honest.
Is this an issue where it has to be repaired or replaced or can they say it doesn't have to be fixed.  Surely they have to fix it?
I did hear that this can be an MOT failure?

Any comments well appreciated.

Cheers

I dried mine out and then did two 100+ mile journeys with the fogs on and the O'S is now dry  :smug:But the NS whilst much much better is still not right.

When washing the car yesterday I noticed my second access cover in the front arch has gone so that won't be helping matters

Trip to the dealers me thinks.

Thanks for the link.

I understand that a bit of moisture is to be expected but this is a bit more than moisture.  During heavy rain last week, there must have been about 5mm lying at the bottom of them.  Found it a bit strange for both of them to be the same.
Anyway, booked in for next Saturday so I'll update the thread after i learn the outcome.
Exciting stuff I know....

Same issue that mine had. I think it might be the seal by the Bulb holder.

I'm told it's a bumper off and swap out of the unit.

BrigGTi

When the car was in for the alloys swapping over I got them to look at the fog lamps

They agreed it was a warranty replacement but unfortunately had none in stock :( so will arrange at my local dealer over the next week or so

Result !!

Car goes in a week on Monday for new fog lamps under warranty. no hassle. Told him I'd had fogs on trying to clear. He said slight condensation is common/acceptable but mine were "bad" - any more than 20 mins to clear is warranty issue he commented

Update as promised Buck.

As yourself, dealers had no issues with ordering two new fog lights.
Was only in for 20mins.
I know some dealers get a bad rep however nothing has ever been a problem for Advantage Volkswagen of Stirling.
Thoroughly recommend them.

Did you get your fogs replaced yet?
