Help! - Bluetooth problem & android phone
« on: 14 February 2011, 12:37 »
Hi,

Has anyone else had an issue with pairing their phone and the bluetooth systems together?  I have the upgraded Dynaudio system and a HTC desire (android 2.2 sytem) and cannot get it to connect in my golf gti mk6.
The car's bluetooth system can find the phone but after attempting to connect replies 'phone not compatible', I've tried the opposite too by searching for the car bluetooth through the phone but it cannot find it.
I have tried a local car audio specialist (Ray Smiths, Edinburgh) and they are none the wiser to this issue and told me to go back to vw which I have done so and my reply from the services garage is that no 'smart phone' e.g. iphone4, Blackberry or HTC phone which is less than a year old can connect and that a new piece of software is taking some time in order for these phones to be able to connect...

I find it hard to believe that this is not possible in a VW as my HTC desire can connect to Ford's no problem bluetooth system.

Can anyone help??

Regards

Marc

Bluetooth is a pain in the ass as there's a fair few different standards. At work we had so much trouble pairing the units we sell to a Kia C'eed we had to hire one for 5 weeks for diagnostic testing!

Which bluetooth system do you have installed? If it came with the car when did you get the car?

VW have changed the systems installed from factory a few times. The older ones only support rSAP which isnt supported by the iPhone (no idea about android sorry) but the newer ones support A2DP which does work with the iPhone.

Must be an old module. You can change it for about £200 off eBay. Not sure if you can check version info without using VCDS or looking on module itself (in foam wrapper under drivers seat). If you can post the model number of your module, then I can help further.

Remote Sim Access Profile (rSAP) is not that common on smartpones, they all use Hands Free Profile (HFP) for voice and phone book. rSAP also does SMS and actually is a mobile phone in it's own right, so just uses the phone to access the SIM card, phonebook and network. That's the drawback - a smartphone would then be unable to be smart while connected, as both car and phone can't access the SIM at the same time. Maybe that's why they don't support it?

If your network let's you have two SIMs connected at same time (some do), then you could use and old Nokia hidden in the back of your desk drawer as a car phone? A bit of a muddle, mind you!

@Doc: Agree that rSAP (Premium) is awesome, but the A2DP means newer phones do work well, too. Wife's crappy Nokia gets SMS and brilliant signal. Come on Apple!

Sorry for jumping on the GTI forum but you guys seem the most knowledgeable golf owners about so can you tell me - I've got a golf match on order which comes with "bluetooth phone prep" on a RCD 510 with DAB but there seem to be mixed messages about the bluetooth profiles supported. Is this unit rSAP only or have they now expanded to other bluetooth profles?

Assuming that they have other profiles, that is good as you can use a wider range of phones but presumably only for some of the functions you can use an rSAP phone for? i.e. you can make and receive calls only?
