What's the difference with pearlesant paint then to other paint like metallic etc???
Its very simple, but sort of hard to explain.. all normal, non pearl metallics, use varying grades of aluminium. from fine aluminium, medium, coarse, very coarse, and glitter, all are silver in colour, and when added to other normal colours in a given formulation, will give you the colour you want.
Pearlescent colour formulation are exactly the same, except rather than using silver aluminium tinters, they use coloured flecks of pearlescent material, liken it to a kids glitter set, with all the different colours of glitter
Typical formulation for lets say a normal type metallic black would go something like this..
90% Black
5% White
3% Fine Aluminium
2% Coarse Aluminium
and a wild guess at what's in Blauschwarz
80% Black
10% Blue Black (almost black)
4% Green pearl tinter
4% Blue pearl tinter
2% Fine aluminium silver
Your colour is only just a pearl, because of the tiny quantity of pearl involved, later colours are much more heavily laden, and give a far different effect
Pearls can also be applied in individual coloured layers, over lets say a white base, giving a mother of pearl effect, the downside to this is if it gets damaged, its impossible to match, unless a full respray is carried out! people don't seem to bother anymore
