Buy one 2nd hand and it'll be a steal

I'd never buy a second hand safety seat for my child Linky: http://www.which.co.uk/baby-and-child/nursery-and-feeding/guides/where-to-buy-baby-equipment-second-hand/safety-issues/

But would you buy a second-hand Ford S-Max? Which, I think, is what Buck meant.

Thanks all for the good wishes! Well, its just about sinking in now and the car dilemma is foremost in my mind (don't tell Mrs Doddy!).  I'm not going to rush - still time to enjoy the golf but I will have to be sensible so it will be going one way or another. I have no finance on it but do i trade for similar value MPV/4x4 type or as suggested by p3asa sell the golf and buy a cheaper workhorse and save the cash? I think I can manage with the Mazda most of the time but will pop into Halfords and ask car seat fitter for advice.

All my family are in Scotland so I need something that can safely and comfortably get us (and the lab!) up there. Much as I want to stay with VW not sure about the Touran - looks a bit dull inside and out and high spec ones not cheap and few and far between. Fear I do need to go for 7 seater though for kids friends, family etc so S Max, Pug 5008, etc may need to be considered? Would like a Disco 3 but still expensive and would have to be a basic high miler 5 year old to match value of golf as far as I can see.

Decisions decisions and haven't even considered double buggies etc!

I know they are very good, never driven one though. Just looking at them on Landrover Used site and actually could get younger than i thought probably. Would you suggest trading/swapping golf for similar value or selling golf privately? I guess any garage would be happy with decent GTI on forecourt?

To be fair this time of year land rovers and all 4x4's are at a premium, if you can wait a little bit you should see prices coming down as spring approaches which is also when cars start selling again so you'll be in a win win situation.

If you can buy your car from a Land Rover main dealer as you'll get a years extra warranty that's worth it's weight in gold.

I have quite a lot of experience with Land Rovers so please feel free to ask any questions

Ours is a '58 2009MY run out version so it's quite nice for a Land Rover, the last one we owned had covered 97,000 miles and was still in great condition and had never let us down, I only changed as I was offered the one we have now at a very very good price.

MPG wise they'll do 25 around town rush hour or upto 32 on the motorway - more it you take it easy.

Tax is 400 odd quid but you'll be glad for it in the winter!

Servicing is reasonable if you get your stealer to price match the best price you can get from your local indi but it is every 12 months or 15,000 miles.

Interior space is vast full stop.

Imagine my situation at present:

3 grandkids in the past 7 years, ages approx 6, 4, 2.5, their mum and dad in my GTI. I am grateful I have an ex-wife with the Merc, and the mother of the kids is tiny though the father is very large. Four in the back and two in the front. The kids won't be seperated. Bloody crowded and every journey becomes hell on earth.

I just wish they had used some effective contraception. Do I need to buy a bigger vehicle? NO for now. I have made sure the former is in force. I was there to make sure.

They are still waiting to get their Golf. Ordered June 2010, expected delivery June 2011. VW are not making our lives very easy.

On that bombshell, I gracefully depart from this thread.
