Just out of curiosity can I weld the head and get it skimmed to repair the fault...

Not a long term repair, I've seen it done on a MK2 GTD by an american chap who had a CRACK in between 2 cylinders and just wanted it to work until he rebuilt another engine. I stopped reading his thread when I broke my GTD and never went back there

It's actually still going, over 12,000 miles later

OK so maybe you can get away with it for longer than I thought

Passat B5.5 2.3 V5 170, with all the extras.

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

corroision pits and channels cane be welded up and skimmed.   on vvvvv high perormance heads it's actualy quite common to add weld to them so chambers and ports can be reshaped and oilways relocated

all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Quicker and easier to fit a s/h head, digi one will fit if you stuck.
