Options on front seats?
« on: 10 February 2011, 18:28 »
The front drivers seat in my VR6 is pretty shabby and I was just wondering what my options for replacements are?

I assume that any seats from a Mk3 will fit, however, apart from the VR6 ones are there any others that are fairly high spec i.e. GTI?

Are Mk2 or Mk4 seats a straight swap? I quite like the seats in my mk4 so that might be a good option?

Just hoping to open up a few more doors whilst looking around on ebay etc.

Cheers

The best seats available are either the cloth Recaro's or the leather Colour Concept Recaro's which are still very expensive for sets that are in good condition.

Better off with the cloth versions so you don't have too worry about matching door cards.

Just had a quick look. Unfortunately you're quite a distance from me but I've added the cloth set to my watch list all the same. I'm going to have a good look at mine again tomorrow. When I sat in the car earlier there seemed to be a lot of play in the drivers RH rear foot. I'm wondering if something has broken underneath in which case there may be more urgency in my sourcing a decent replacement such as yours.

Thanks for the heads-up.

If the seat is loose in the runner see if the white clips are still fitted, if they are missing they are cheap and easy to replace.

If u were fitting seats from other make, how much fabrication is involved in the mounting and runner arrangements though? Obviously rear benches would need to be done and measured as well unless your just sticking with what u have, but I don't think it looks right being mis-matched.
Classic Green Corrado VR6 Storm | Jetex Cat back | BMC CDA | VT mounts | Bilstein B12 | 288mm front brakes | Mk4 rear brakes | Goodridge braided hoses | BBS RX228s | Shortshifter | Lupo wipers | Uprated headlight loom | All red rears | Refreshed leather | Fresh paint |

I used the Scooby front seats and left the rear bench alone. If you get the right seats then just dye them Black to match the rear. To get then to fit took about 4 hours of work cutting the runners off the GTI seats and the Scooby seats and then attaching the GTI runners to the Scooby seats. Looks loads better though

Not long surfaced after another gruelling nightshift so will look at the seat shortly.
From what I could see yesterday, it didn't look like the usual white clip missing. The foot seemed to stay securely in the track but the seat base moved with articulation at the top of the leg where the seat base would join the leg :undecided:

I'll have a better look in a minute or so.............
