Copper eyelet advice please
« on: 09 February 2011, 16:24 »
Hi there

My problem is this...
The connection cable from my negative on my battery that goes all the way accross to my starter motor, well the copper eyelet that goes thru the the top starter motor bolt has corroded to nothing, what are my option please??? Can I easily replace this eyelet and somehow re connect a new one onto the existing somehow  crimp it on??
Thank you

the one from battery to the starter is the +ve, the -ve goes to the gearbox?

either way rob battery/starter/alternator cables from MK3 Golf in scrappy, +ve are direct fit just need to cut out your old blue wire and stick it to the mk3 alt wire (you'll see what I mean)
-ve isnt quite a direct fit, the ring terminal to the battery tray earth point doesnt quite reach so make up a short piece of chunky wire to bridge the gap. if you're lucky and theres some Passat B4 in the scrappy, some of them have the right -ve lead which is a direct fit on a mk2.

if your mk2 is pre-88 then it'll have the early style earth on top of the gearbox, if so nick the MK3 bolt where the gearbox earth attaches and fit it to your car :)
