MK1 Stuck in gear....
« on: 31 August 2003, 16:02 »
I was happily driving along the M3 beating Rich in his 2.3 audi  ;), when I decided to pull in for the M25 Junction, pulled in behind a Caravan and Rich pulled infront of it(cheeky boy!!!)...  Got passed the chervrons and dropped her down into 3rd, overtook it, pulled in behind Rich, went to change into 4th and couldnt, just wouldnt budge...  Pulled onto the hardshoulder, Rich pulled of a nifty lane change and we both had a look, couldnt budge it using the gear stick or yanking at it from the engine....  Anyhoo, we decided we could not do anything there and then so had to drive from Staines to Guildford in 3rd, yes it was a boring drive...

Anyone know the solution????  Seems theres always something wrong with my car but the fun I have driving it more that makes up for it ;D
Race ya...

I don't know what happened to your gearbox there mate really gutted, we'll sort it though.
However, that golf I went to look at today at isn't in  bad shape. Fuel pump is siezed, hence we didn't get it going but the body shell is in 'recoverable' condition for a 1982 Golf GTI.
I'm now trying to arrange a trailer or rather a vehicle that can tow a trailer and it will be back at my place within the week. Could be a future restoration there........or, unlimited parts, and yes! Marcus the door cards are mint, in fact the whole interior is mint, its been garaged for 5 years! Even the seat bolsters were good!

Mk1 boy you don't seem to have much luck with that car  ;)   Ditch the mk1 and get a mk2 or mk3   :D

I saw your ad for the drivers seat. Unfortuantely, as the bolsters are good, I'm going to swap my leather seat covers onto the donor seats. My old one isn't too bad as that is out of a Mk2 that I acquired late last year so we still might be able to sort something out.
Are you coming to the show this weekend?

Hi Rich, re the seat if you are swapping over your leather thats cool. im not too fussed about the bolsters themselves, more the material, maybe we could arrange something if its good!!

Unfortunately I wont be at the show as I am on a Stag wekend strarting in London and rumoured to take in Amsterdam over the course of the week Shame it would have been good!!!

I'm pretty sure the seats were black cloth with some relatively (compared with some I've seen) minor wear on the material of the drivers back support bolster. I think the seat base bolster material was fine. I'd have to have another look to confirm. Hope to pick the car up next Tuesday.
