Hi
Just spent the evening putting spax coiliovers on my mk2 golf gti 16v as the lowered springs fitted had snapped in two places on drivers side not good at all.
However.....
I now have a knocking sound coming from what sounds like the shocker on pass side any ideas it doesn't bang just sorta knocks on small bumps unsure as why any ideas? other than that real nice shocks.
Any advice on nipping the strut bolts up as its a 9mm flat sided bolt on the damper and a 22mm nut I bought a 22mm deep offset spanner from skankfords but it didn't get close to fitting! got it tight eventually but might need nipping up hence knocking????  local friendly garages impact wrench I think will this do it?

I will one day get my car running as it should then I can cane it a tad!!!
snooper s3 neo leading the government cash machine revolution!!
cheers

They tend to make a few noises while bedding in but this should be no more than springs moving a little. If your getting some serious bangs and clunks i would go over your work and check every nut and bolt. Also check the top mounts. They may have busted. Ive just done mine, when i took the old ones off the bearings just fell out on the floor!

I had a clicking/nocking noise when i fitted coilies.

with the bonnet up. Test this by bouncing the front end of the car and listning for the noise.
If its coming from the top mount then you need a washer between the topmount and the coilover.

While your here change your topmount for new genuine VW ones. easy to do them now than taking them off again later.

i fitted some nice springs and bosche gas shocks 2 my mk2 driver and i get a sort of banging noise , it so quite i put it down 2 my chair being  knackerd  , but it is definetly coming from my drivers side rear , but the car has been running like that now 4r ages so i wouldnt worry bout it , unless it is real banging
