Almost mk V GTI owner!
« on: 08 February 2011, 19:01 »
Hi all!

Had a mk IV Golf GTTDI a few years back - was a real beast - and after a few years with a Clio Cup, I am returning with a mk V GTI as her indoors is expecting and I cannot face a boring family car!!

Hope to be finalising the deal this weekend - is there anything specific I should look out for on test drive and check over?

Here's a link to the ebay of the one I'm off to see Saturday

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Volkswagen-Golf-GTI-2-0T-Mk5-/250768281229?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3a62f44e8d

I know it's a Cat-D  :embarassed: but I'm having a look as it's low miles, good spec, 5 doors  and to be fair, the seller has been straight up with me all along. Asked a few questions, then ran a vehicle check and results matched what he had told me. If it's in straight order and test drive goes well, hope to be bringing it home.

And thanks for the welsomes guys

Gaz

After a full day of being told pretty much every insurer will not look at a cat-d, or if they will being on the end of an eye watering quote (£1300 - £1500!) I have decided against the previously mentioned car.

I am still persuing a gti and have arranged to view another on Saturday.

55 reg, 58000 miles, DSG - Any specifics to test during the test drive?

Thanks

Gaz

insurance companies are not bothered by cat-d whatsoever i know many people who have insured cat-d cars and the premium was no more than a non cat-d car.. cat-d is normally just superficial damage which is why insurers are not bothered.. you dont even need a VIC check with a cat-d car..

if they getting arsey about it try someone like adrian flux they just gave me a good renewal..

Dont forget the price will be high because of what car it is and the GTI badge !
Mk4 Golf GTI anniversary and mk6 golf tdi :)
