oh f**k!!

just parked up at the pub and noticed fluid as i reversed back. got out and my car was pissing coolant looked under the bonnet and it was all coming from the resivour and the engine temp soared obv. noticed the fan was unplugged =/ plugged that back in how do i fix it? getting new resivour bottle now as i think its f**ked. its a 1.8 gl abs cheers

is it coming out of the cap or the pipe work at the bottom. If its the cap, and its a black one, change it for a blue cap as the old black ones have a common pressure relief problem

couldnt tell by the time i got under the bonnet i was dry. if it were the cap (which is a black one) would i have lost the majority if not all of my coolant?

If the engine gets warm and pressures the system it could certainly lose a fair bit

ive got a vr6 mk3 and i bought a new cap from ebay,a blue one,but it was a different size one

right, i have come to the conclusion it was the cap that was shagged. ordered a new one getting it tomorrow £2.50 bargain! how do i go about refilling? i also need to drain out the water i put in to get it back home.

Just use water if its not far home, once there disconnect the bottom rad hose and you may as well flush the system whilst your at it. Top up as normal, and make sure you shift any air pockets. (lots of threads on here how to do it) Hope all goes well

use 50% coolant (about 2-3litres from memory) from VW when refilling.  Turn the heating on in the cabin whilst bleeding and you shouldn't have a problem.
You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

The crap black caps, is that the same on agg 2.0l 8v cars aswell? Mine is black, should I pick up a blue one?

Yes I believe the blue cap is better.
