creaky door trim
« on: 07 February 2011, 12:52 »

Hey guys

just after some advice please... my door trim has started creaking, where indicated in red, when driving along any type of road surface, be it smooth or bumpy. If I hold the trim it stops creaking.

Now is this something I can fix easily myself or would it best to book it in with the dealers to have a look at? Bearing in mind I have never taken off a door trim in my life but am willing to give it a go!

TIA

Dave

As it's under warranty I'd be tempted to drop it in to the dealers.

It could be that one of the retaining clips has 'sprung'.

In the interim if you get a cloth folded over a few times placed against the trim and give it a firm tap with the heel of your hand it may clip it back in if this is the cause.

Mine does this i have asked for info about how they are held on before but had no luck. I think there just stuck on. I was waiting till my first service for them to have a look at the 3 on mine that make the noise.
I posted a video of mine previously.

Anyone know how the Decorative trims on the door panel are held on as mine tick and crack like a barstuard.

Such poor quality, the dealers should sort this out for you straight away, for what a new GTI costs I would not be happy with trim becoming loose so soon.

But if you work 75+ hours a week, are in constant demand at work and not always in the UK its quite hard for some people to get to the dealers when there open

My car started to do this in October / November time when it got really cold, and has done since. It went in for a Service today, took them for a drive to hear the noise and it didn't happen - typical! Funny thing was that when I drove the car back from the Garage tonight it started to make the noise again. Interesting to see I am not the only one!

Strange silver door trim - mines black with a silver accent line - are they all like that

If you'd like to try removing the door panel I'll help you but you need to come to my workshop in Altrincham

I'd say it's not a GTI/GTD Doc, it's got a cream headliner too.
Think it's a GT with a Roc steering wheel?
